Most leaders have more dashboards than time. Every number is there, but finding the three that need attention today can take an hour of clicking.
Manage by exception
A better habit is to start the day with a short brief: which numbers are off track, what might be causing it, and who owns each one. Everything that’s on track can wait.
The most useful report is the one that tells you what you can safely ignore.
Numbers first, stories second
When AI helps write that brief, one rule matters more than any other: the numbers must be calculated by the system, not guessed by the AI. The AI’s job is to explain, not to do the math.
From noticing to doing
- Spot what’s off track.
- Suggest likely causes.
- Ask the person who owns the number a clear, fair question.
- Track what they commit to, and check back.
Any message to a team member should wait for the leader’s OK before it’s sent. A friendly, specific question works better than a red box on a dashboard.
CEO Copilot is built around this idea: a daily brief, an AI “executive” for each department, and nothing sent without your OK.
